19th Century Ethnographic Maps of the Balkan Peninsula. A set including 11 ethnographic and 4 historical political maps of the entire Balkan Peninsula. The maps are facsimile of the originals produced between 1847 and 1878. Sizes range from tabloid to folio. Each map is accompanied by a detailed description of its origin, including author's nationality and qualifications, the circumstances of the map's creation, sources and relevant historical events. Given the poor readability of some of the originals, resolution enhancement techniques were used in the reproduction process. Please note that some of the sample images on this site do not show the entire maps.
